The Planning SOP · Ray × Claude

🪦 出生事故 ×2:Rock of Ages(开到门口才发现永久关闭,白跑一小时);Thurston's Lobster Pound(周日到达,周二开门——"Again it is closed")。
🪦 出生事故:Cadillac 山顶 $6 开进浓雾——"All fog no view makes Ray a doll boy."(这单其实是明知 75% 降雨照赌的,但教训通用:视野站点必须挂天气闸。)
(b) 首页 trips.slray.com 顶部永远有一张「👉 今日」卡直达当天页面——行程结束才撤下;

This page is the trip copilot's operating manual: no stop and no plan ships until it clears the four gates below. Under each rule hangs its birth accident — these weren't thought up, they were crashed into. The「✅ verified」marks on planning pages mean a stop passed this SOP.

The four gates

① Is it open — on the day we arrive, at the hour we arrive?
Three layers, all mandatory: (a) not permanently closed; (b) open on that weekday (closure days, seasonal shutdowns); (c) open at the projected arrival time (early close, "opens Tuesday"). Verified hours get printed on the plan.
🪦 Birth accidents ×2: Rock of Ages (drove to the door of a permanently closed attraction — an hour wasted); Thurston's Lobster Pound (arrived Sunday; opens Tuesday — "Again it is closed").
② Are shower and laundry scheduled?
Every multi-day plan must explicitly slot 🚿 showers (venue + time window) and 🧺 laundry, exactly like charging stops. The PF Black Card is the primary weapon; PF-void regions get declared up front ("no shower tonight — wet-wipes protocol"), never discovered on arrival.
🪦 Birth accident: the Portland night — arrived 21:45; all three PFs closed at 21:00 and the laundromat's last hour wasn't enough. The whole evening was re-planned on the curb.
③ Did the weather clear the gate?
Check the forecast (NWS, hourly) before the plan ships. View-dependent stops (summits, overlooks, observation towers) get an explicit go/skip call plus a rain-proof alternative; waterfalls and gorges are rain-enhanced and get up-weighted in bad weather. When weather kills a marquee stop, say so proactively and reroute.
🪦 Birth accident: $6 driven into dense fog on Cadillac — "All fog no view makes Ray a doll boy." (That one was a knowing 75%-rain gamble, but the lesson generalizes: view stops wear a weather gate.)
④ Is it one tap away — today's page, straight from the home page?
(a) One page per day (/xcountry/return-dayN), a table of contents at the top of the hub, append-only, exactly one 👉TODAY;
(b) The home page trips.slray.com always carries a「👉 Today」card at the top that opens the current day directly — removed only when the trip ends;
(c) Every stop: a time estimate (meals, charging and shower counted), a single-pin nav link plus the address to type into the Tesla, checkpoints tagged stoppable vs drive-by, and where 🚿 and 🛏️ happen.
🪦 Birth accident: the ride home from the East Coast camp had no entry on the home page at all — four levels of clicking to reach the day; and the outbound TOC once carried two TODAYs (Day 6 was never demoted). (Ray, 2026-09-03, Carlisle Walmart lot)

Appendix: standing house rules (the SOP's companion clauses)

🥐No breakfast: coffee + a roll in the morning; the first real meal lands on the first major stop (brunch/lunch)
😴Respect the late chronotype: plans are built around ~10:30 starts; nothing that only works with an early rise — early options are priced and optional
🧭Nav links are for activities only: every stop gets a one-tap single-pin link; chargers stay out of the route sheet (the car handles them) unless co-located with food/gym/shower
🗂️Planning pages are append-only: dead plans get struck through and archived — the pages are the trip's geological strata
🌇The whole trip runs on New York time: at the sleep spot by 22:00 ET (= 21:00 Central / 20:00 Mountain / 19:00 Arizona–Pacific). Cassie works NY hours, so departures, arrivals and bedtime are all sheeted in ET, with local time in brackets. Ray runs 1–2 h behind any plan and the evening westbound hour drives into the sun — this one rule happens to fix both. (9/4, the sunset before Wytheville)
🚿Every day-plan carries a shower slot, a first-class citizen like a charge stop
🧽Self-serve car wash after dirt roads, before photogenic stretches (wand, never brushes)
📸All photos viewed personally, one by one — never delegated to another model
🌡️Temperatures in Celsius (or dual °C/°F)

The SOP runs indefinitely; new accidents mint new clauses. Last updated 2026-09-03, the Carlisle Walmart morning (gate ④ added).
