|---|---|---|
| Exit 121 | Grizzly Creek Rest Area | 5 min · Glenwood
| Exit 125 | Hanging Lake Rest Area | 5 min ·
| Exit 129 | Bair Ranch Rest Area | 5 min ·
| Exit 190 | Vail Pass Rest Area | 10 min · 3,120m
Loveland Pass |
| US-6 | Loveland Pass Summit | 15 min · 3,655m
| Exit 228 | Georgetown Lake | 5 min ·
| ~13:00 | 🏞️ Glenwood Canyon | I-70
| ~21:00 | 🌠 Loveland Pass(3,655m · US-6!)
Cassie |
🍔 明日(Day 5):丹佛 In-N-Out 告别 Double-Double → 大平原。
🗺️ Today's leg (grey = the whole Santa Clara→Jersey City run · blue = today)
📍 Tonight's remaining leg: stops you can actually navigate to
| Exit | Search this name | How long · what you get |
|---|---|---|
| Exit 121 | Grizzly Creek Rest Area | 5 min · the best stoppable spot in Glenwood Canyon — riverside, the double-decked viaduct overhead. After dark it's just the sound of the river |
| Exit 125 | Hanging Lake Rest Area | 5 min · the canyon's narrowest reach (the trail needs a permit; the rest area doesn't) |
| Exit 129 | Bair Ranch Rest Area | 5 min · looking back into the canyon's east mouth |
| Exit 190 | Vail Pass Rest Area | 10 min · a real parking lot at 3,120 m — tonight's one guaranteed alpine stop |
| — | Eisenhower Tunnel | ⚠️ No stopping inside the bore. This is a drive-through checkpoint, not a park-and-shoot. Want the photo? Take the road over the top instead ↓ |
| US-6 | Loveland Pass Summit | 15 min · the Continental Divide sign + parking lot at 3,655 m (the tunnel's rooftop road). Clear sky = tonight's only reason to climb; thunder or ice = take the tunnel |
| Exit 228 | Georgetown Lake | 5 min · lake + old mining town (lights only, at night) |
⏱️ Tonight's honest caveat: a 20:00 departure means driving in the dark — the three Glenwood Canyon stops become "hear the river, see nothing." Save them for a daylight run through this stretch; tonight's usable stops are the Vail Pass lot and (if clear) Loveland Pass.
🔗 One-tap route
▶️ Palisade peach stand → Glenwood springs → Loveland Pass meteors → Wheat Ridge sleep
Palisade, CO and drive East Orchard Mesa / G Road — in August it's lined with hand-painted PEACHES signs; take whichever has cars parked at it. Stands open ~9:00.| ~Local | Stop | Do |
|---|---|---|
| 8–9 | Natural wake in the peach town | Coffee · one daylight glance at the underbody (30-second close on yesterday's case) |
| ~9:30 | 🍑 The Palisade stand crawl — a 5-minute drive (across the river into town; see correction above) | Checkpoint ①: August = peak Colorado peach season; a bag for the day's fruit (stand price is truth). Melon town yesterday, peach town today — the fruit-highway serial, part ③ |
| 11–12 | Roll, I-70 east | Destination Glenwood, car plans charging · find a self-serve wand wash in Rifle/Glenwood — yesterday's dust off before the Rockies' photogenic miles 🧽 |
| ~13:00 | 🏞️ Glenwood Canyon | I-70's masterpiece: double-decked viaducts in the Colorado River gorge — driving it is checkpoint ② |
| ~13:30 | ♨️ Glenwood Hot Springs Pool | The world's largest hot-springs pool: 2 hours in (gate ~$32–40, posted is truth) · 🚿 solved utterly · poolside lunch · car charges meanwhile (West Glenwood stalls / car's pick) |
| ~16:00 | ⛰️ Vail Pass (3,120 m) → the Eisenhower Tunnel (3,357 m — the Interstate's summit) | Checkpoint ③: under the Continental Divide — exit the bore into the Atlantic watershed |
| ~17:45 | 🍜 Dinner in Silverthorne/Dillon | Real towns, pick anything · night-sky forecast decides the meteors: clear = go up; overcast = straight to Wheat Ridge and sleep (the peak has a second night — never gamble tired) |
| ~21:00 | 🌠 Loveland Pass (3,655 m · US-6!) | Perseid maximum · near-new moon · altitude dark sky — the same US-6 that's followed you since Utah. 60–90 min: every warm layer on (3–7°C up there) · hood recline · NE sky · never sleep at the pass (3,655 m = altitude-sickness coupon) |
| ~23:00 | 🛏️ Descend → Walmart Wheat Ridge | 50 min of regen downhill · three-read · ≥40% at bedtime ✓ · pin to Cassie |
🌠 Meteor gate = look up at dinner: drive to the pass only if stars are visible from Silverthorne. Actively storming at the pass = abandon (an exposed lot at 3,655 m + lightning is not a gamble). Tomorrow's Kansas plains are dark sky too — the peak is two nights wide.
🍔 Tomorrow (Day 5): the Denver In-N-Out farewell Double-Double → the Great Plains. ⚠️ Afternoon mountain storms remain possible: the springs don't mind rain; meteors need clear — if overcast, cede to tomorrow night. Never bet against the mountain while tired.
