Carlisle is exactly where I-76 and I-81 split: turn left onto I-81 and every mile is new — the Shenandoah Valley, the Blue Ridge, the Smokies, Nashville, Memphis, the Mississippi; stay on I-76/I-70 and you re-drive 600 miles of the outbound in reverse. ~110 mi (≈2 h) more to OKC. Worth it. Roll 11:30, sleep spot before 21:00 (lunch, dinner, two charges and a shower counted). Eastern time all day. Pop-up meeting: I-81 has a rest area or Sheetz every 30–40 mi, open sky.
Why yesterday looked like the outbound: from New Jersey there are only two sane ways southwest — I-76/I-70 (the outbound) or I-81/I-40 (the southern line). They're the same road until Carlisle. Today is the fork.
